REPUBLIC  DAY

There is no future without the past.  The one who knows his past builds a good future.  The colonial rulers suffered severe set backs in the World War II and the administration of India was weakened by the non-cooperation movement led by Mahatma Gandhi.  British government  sent a team known as Cabinet Mission  to examine the feasibility of granting independence to Indian colony. People of India elected the members to the provincial assemblies. Elected members in turn elected the Constituent Assembly.  The Assembly which  began work on 9 December 1947. The assembly had distinguished personalities like  Jawaharlal Nehru, Sarojini Naidu, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, B. N. Rau, Vallabhbhai Patel, among others. The first president of the Assembly was Sachidanand Sinha. Later on, Rajendra Prasad became president of the Constituent Assembly. Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was  the chairman of the Drafting Committee. The Constituent Assembly met well over 2 years to draft the Constitution. All the sessions were open to the press. The bill was passed on November 26, 1949 and came into effect on January 26, 1950. So far,  King George VI was the Head of the State. C. Rajagopalachari served as the Governor-General of India. Following January 26, 1950, Rajendra Prasad was elected as the first president. India has the longest written constitution of any country.

The Constitution guarantees  justice, equality, and liberty to its citizens.  The constitution satisfies its aspirations through  main organs of government  the executive, the legislature and the judiciary. All the rules, regulations, codes enacted by  any political party in power in the centre or in the states should be in conformity with the Constitutional goals  Democracy, Socialism and National Integration. No law made by the country and the states within can go against Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles and Duties of citizens stipulated in the Constitution.

26th of January is  celebrated as the Republic Day of India. The building of this country is on strong lines.  Republic of India which means the States within the country do not have an option of going out. Some countries like former USSR, USA and UK are mere United amalgamation of states within.

The privileged think that there is no fun if justice, equality and liberty are given in equal measure to all! These are the 'haves' and the influential bureaucrats. At times I do dirty things  I steal pens and pencils from my office, I take bribe for my petty expenses, I take the liberty of using office phone  5 times a day for personal conversations.  My Brown Babuji (His ancestor was a Whiteman) takes away office laptop but does not steal; he coordinates a function with the help of customers and bags a chunk,  but does not take bribe; he decorates the office spending Rs.one lakh from public fund (as his chamber is in east of south portion in west of east block of the building!)  and uses his official car to go to Tirupathi quite often.  Shriman Brown Babuji is very religious. At times, I am afraid of my dignity.  My photograph may appear in every bus station and media may refer to me in singular, if I commit pick pocket. I always resist the temptation to pick anybody's pocket. You see, I can not hire any Rams to represent my case.  I can not host a lavish press conference to defend my prestige.

No Book of Constitution of any country can make you more humane.  The religious scriptures I have in my library do not make me religious.  Is it not through constitutional methods like Courts that Jesus Christ and Socrates were put to death? Is it not through democracy Adolph Hitler came to power? Bookish principles are different and practices are different, in most of the cases. The Courts on earth require a witness to prove innocence. But in God's court, Himself is witness (Saksheebhuta).  If you follow your religious directives, you  follow the constitution of any country, for the such constitutions can not go against common wellbeing of mankind.  To speak the truth I do not require any legal help nor knowledge of my rights.  How easy it is to be a simple person!
