The Sun God known by the names Ravi, Surya, Bhanu, Arka, Mithra and by several other names. In fact Rigveda is full of praise, describing Him by several names and qualities. He is Atmakaraka (Significator of soul). Being at the centre of the solar system, Sun is the giver of life force to all the other planets and the life everywhere. He indicates father, honor, status, fame, the heart, the eyes, respect and power. In Rudhra Prashna he is given as an example of living God ("The Gopas say the Invisible is Visible here"). He is also referred as a Kavi, the poet who sees everything. Ravi gives clear perception. In his name Trijakalpa Suryanamaskara (a pooja for ravi) is conducted on Sundays. Propitiation measures to Ravi strengthens bones, cure illness particularly of cardio vascular nature, gives progeny, gold, restores honor and dignity.
The mantras for ravi are recited to reduce eye related problems, head aches, neurological problems as well as heart related complications. Among several mantras given here - beeja mantras is most powerful, followed by gayatri mantra. But these require strict austerity measures and high level of concentration. āṣṭōttara śatanāmāvaḷiḥ and āṣṭōttara śatanāma stōtraṁ are used to worship with flowers etc., in the event of doing pooja. āvāhana maṁtraḥ is used to invoke ravi in shanti kriya. Among sūrya maṃtraḥ, āditya stōtraṁ,  sūrya kavacaṃ the last one is regarded as strongest. All these mantras should be used after bath, in a particular place, time and using dedicated dress code.  namaskāra ślokaḥ and pīḍāhara stotraṃ can be recited any time and anywhere and even after partaking food.  No dress code is attached to these two mantras and these are the least powerful of all the mantras, but flexibility these mantras enjoy will also help. And finally which mantra you should use depends on your ease of pronunciation and personal preference. Gayatri mantra and beeja mantra should not be recited more than a thousand times a day.
However, the exact role ravi plays is dependent on his ruler ship, placement and association as well as aspect in the natal chart. You will be required to recite mantras / slokas / stotras etc., related to ravi when you are experiencing adverse effects based on the position in rasis and houses, ownership, aspects,  or association of ravi.  These mantras are also recited when the results of ravi in transit is bad. Also, these mantras are recited to good benefits from the rulers, success in endeavors and to increase the charisma. Further, these mantras, particularly āditya hr̥dayam can be recited to obtain even more good results when ravi is strong and well posited in the chart.
