PRACTICE OF DIVINATION
Book of Isaiah, Amos, Zephaniah contain elaborate prophecies. Actually, the birth of Jesus is linked to the prophecy "This was to fulfill the passage in prophet Isaiah" (Mathew 4 verse 14). "After his birth astrologers from the East arrived in Jerusalem, asking where is the child who is born to be King of Jews? We observed the rising of his star, and we have come to pay homage." (Mathew 2 verses 2-3). But giving prophecy is not an honorable job as per early Christian doctrine: "We met a slave-girl who was possessed by an oracular spirit and brought large profits to her owners by telling fortunes. She followed Paul and rest of us shouting, these men are servants of God and are declaring to you a way of salvation. She did this day after day, until Paul could bear it no longer. Rounding on the spirit he said, 'I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her and it went out there and then." (Acts 15 verses 2116-18).  In Islam, prophecies from the Old Testament like Isaiah 29:12, 21:13-17, Deuteronomy 18:18 and Gospel of John in New Testament are used to substantiate that Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) is the next messenger. For example, "Jesus said, I will ask the Father and he will give you another to be your advocate, who will be with you for ever-the spirit of truth" (John 14 verses15-16. Similar references are also found at John 16:7-11 and 13-15.

Hindu religion is not founded by any particular person. In vedas and upanishads we see a blend of philosophy with theology - unlike in western religions. Vedas and upnishads are not concerned with prophecies and astrology. Some prophecies are found in Srimadbhagawad Geeta.
श्लोक ७, ८ ज्ञानयोग, श्रीमद्भगवद्गीत "When there is decline in dharma and increase in adharma, I take birth to protect good and punish evil, time and again." --7,8 Gnana Yoga.  Divination (seeing the future) is not sanctioned by Christian and Islamic scriptures. "Ye who believe intoxicants and gambling (Dedication of) stones, And (divination by) Arrows, Are an abominator Of Satan's handy work Eschew such (abomination) That ye may prosper." --Ayat 93 Sura 5.   Astrology was elaborately used in fixing suitable time for conducting religious ceremonies like yagna and marriages in vedic days, like ancient Egyptians who monitored seasons to protect themselves from the floods in Nile, aryans also had to know the change of seasons. Both the cultures were agriculture dependent. Both these cultures had decided to settle down than being nomadic.

If Indian government had provided Adhar card (Unique Identification card)  to these nomads, we would not have any culture at all. Culture and history began with settlement in a locality.  Providing a permanent settlement for the labor on move should have been our priority.  Does this card provide education for the moving population, the backbone for any development? It is sad, India suffers perpetual tuberculosis, being subjected to repeated scams, incompetence and wastage of time, energy and other resources.  We are a happy generation proud of our glorious past, our contribution to world culture, literature and religions linage and stink in the drainage, like the naked schizophrenic on the foot path enjoying himself in the full public view.  We do not understand, we have become laughing stock on the world scene!
Coming back to main thread, Hinduism is not person oriented.  It does not say that one person by name is the last one (putting an end to any future religious developments) nor that he has already sent his only one precious son. In Hinduism, the God himself came to rescue Gajendra, one insignificant wild elephant.  The prayer of this elephant appears in Bhagawata, is similar to Psalms. A pertinent question arises: what darmasya glani occurred in the times of Mahabharata that prompted the Lord, the creator of the Universe to incarnate?  It was merely a factional fighting between cousins of Kadappah  that you see in any Telugu movie between one Reddamma and Samara Simha Reddy!  Why does not God incarnate when there is a war in African Countries or famine in Uganda? Let us look at the personal level: Were not Pandavas law abiding and religious? Were not emperor and his family reduced to slavery? Were not they righteous people.  So, God is justified to help them. In Hinduism the concept of God is not a person 'in the form of light or human with flowing beard'.  सर्वं खल्विदं ब्रह्म "everything is God" is the Upanishad saying. That nameless soldier in the rescue operations, that nameless doctor who provides medicine, risking his life in Congo, that little girl in Pakistan and our own half clad phakir who brought freedom to India and dignity to lower classes are the incarnates of God! In light of this, यदा यदा हि..................... युगे युगे॥ is the most comprehensive and precise promise brought out in any other religious. Coming to prophecies by name, Hinduism does not sanction such things. No saints came on earth so that the earlier promise in the Old Book by another saint.  Astrology is never equated to spirituality, a total spiritual person does not require any astrological help. Astrology was merely used as a tool to keep a watch on yagnas that were performed on monthly or fortnightly basis. Hindu puranas like Mahabharata, Srimadramayana, Devi Bhagawata mention birth charts, muhurtas etc. Regarding practice of predictive astrology the vedas, upanishads, niruktis, smrutis, grihasutras etc., are silent. Similar case with Yogasanas and ayurveda also!

Sri. Mufti Ebrahim of South Africa says, "Divination by guessing, using Jinnaat and Shayateen, conjuncture is in no circumstance permissible. Concerning the person who recites Quaranic verses and foresees future we can not be specific." Further, he says, "This (divination by conjuncture, estimation and guess) is a type of power which Allah Ta'ala grants an individual but many a times it turns out to be false."

Suppose the prophecy is given by a good Christian soul, it would be acceptable as seen from the following passage:-

"We went to the home of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the Seven and stayed with him. He had four unmarried daughters who possessed the gift of prophecy." (Acts 21:8-10)

King Solomon was known for his wisdom and velour. His prayers to
the Lord appear in 1 kings 3:4-15 and 2 chronicles 1:7-12, but there is no mention of planets. However, some scrolls (known as Dead Sea scrolls) mention Book of Solomon.

"I thank Thee, O Great Creator of Universe, that Thou hast taught me the secrets of planets, that I mayst know the Times and Seasons of Things, the secrets of men's hearts, their thoughts and the nature of their being. Thou gavest unto me this knowledge which is the foundation of all my wisdom.".

As the above prayer would endorse divination as a gift from God, Book of Solomon has not been included in Old Testament. The Book of Solomon has been constructed based on Dead Sea Scrolls 1020 Lansdane MSS, 1307, 3901 Slone MSS and 10862 Add MSS.

There is a sloka in sanskrita which means:- "A sanyasi wants to know his salvation When he meets a good astrologer; Is there any surprise, if you see me, having many aspirations and tribulations, Standing at the doorstep of an astrologer? "
